As if the pandemic wasn’t enough to throw a wrench in your hiring plans, there is another threat: new state Supreme Court rulings limiting access to date of birth (DOB) information. California and Michigan now have court rulings designed to remove dates of birth from public court records, which can slow down employers' efforts to conduct background checks and fill open positions.

The Professional Background Screening Association (PBSA®) Background Screening Credentialing Council (BSCC) has announced that Corporate Screening has successfully demonstrated continued compliance with the Background Screening Agency Accreditation Program (BSAAP) and is recognized as BSCC-Accredited.

For most candidates, the background check is a routine step on the road to employment, often leading to a positive result and eventual hire. However, in other situations, the results of a background check can contain incorrect information and possibly put a candidate’s hire at risk.

According to the Professional Background Screening Association, employment background screening is nearly universal among today’s employers, with 94% using it during the hiring process. While some regulated industries, such as healthcare, have a legal requirement to conduct background checks, other organizations do so to make better-informed hiring decisions.
